An Ultrasound Whole Abdomen was performed for a patient presenting with anorexia.
Although the examination was requested for a non-specific symptom, the ultrasound revealed circumferential wall thickening in distal oesophagus, findings suspicious for oesophageal malignancy, prompting further evaluation.
Follow-up with the referring surgeon confirmed the diagnosis. Upper GI endoscopy demonstrated an ulcero-proliferative growth in the distal oesophagus, correlating with the imaging findings.
This case underscores the importance of carefully evaluating all visible structures during an ultrasound examination. Even when symptoms are non-specific, a meticulous approach can lead to the early detection of significant pathology and timely specialist referral.
