Midgut malrotation with Volvulus

When Every Feed Ends in Vomiting: A Life-Saving Ultrasound Diagnosis

A newborn was brought for an Ultrasound Whole Abdomen with a history of vomiting after every feed.

The ultrasound findings were suggestive of midgut malrotation with volvulus—a surgical emergency that requires immediate intervention to prevent bowel ischemia.

Following the diagnosis, the referring doctor promptly referred the baby to a pediatric surgeon. The child underwent emergency surgery, and we are delighted to share that the baby is now recovering well.

This case highlights the critical role of timely imaging and close collaboration between clinicians and radiologists in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our youngest patients.
